THE POSITION

The Director of Finance & Business Affairs (“the Director”) will be responsible for the financial health of Attraction’s English Content division. You will ensure contractual compliance with financial strategy and that production budgets are properly optimized. The Director will be a key voice on the financial aspects of production and distribution contracts while rigorously evaluating alternate deal structures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Leadership

  • Responsible for ensuring all budgets align with Attraction policies and standards;

  • Responsible for all financial structures, maximizing available tax credits and funding agencies.

  • Orchestrate interim financing, manage bank relationships, and proactively manage currency and cash flow.

  • Act as the primary Finance contact for executive leadership, line producers, and broadcasters and clients.

  • Responsible for ensuring effective management of all applicable tax credits.

  • Manage reporting requirements for agencies and partners.   

  • Oversee cash flow, cost reports, and audit activities.

Business Affairs  

  • Review all business affairs functions including all phases of structuring, production, international distribution, international co-production deals, and related ancillary agreements for financial compliance and the well-being of the division.

  • Lead financial terms for key licensing and co-production agreements, as well as securing provincial and federal tax credits.

  • Coordinate with outside legal counsel on various legal matters, if applicable.

  • Acquire and nurture relationships with key individuals at leading broadcasters and streamers, co-production partners, and funding agencies.

  • Strategize business opportunities and revenue beyond productions.

  • Participate in developing new business.

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in production, distribution, or broadcasting.

  • Strong financial background in content creation in film, television, or digital production.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and business affairs at a production company or similar organization.

  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian tax credits for television and digital media, as well as all other forms of federal and provincial funding.

  • Brings industry expertise including production knowledge.

  • Ability to build strong internal and external client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate in French is an asset.

  • A relevant financial designation or experiential equivalent is an asset.

COMPENSATION

Salary range $150,000 to $200,000 commensurate with experience. Health benefits and a vacation package will be provided.
